It's hard to believe we are a couple of weeks into the 4th quarter. I am really loving teaching this group of students.
In writing, the students have been learning about posters and advertisements. They have made "Lost Animal" posters for a pretend missing animal and posters to celebrate Earth Day. This week we will begin learning about how to write different types of poetry.
We've spent the last two weeks reading lots and lots of great poetry! The class learned about visualization and inferencing. Next week we will get back into informational texts with a theme of taking care of the Earth. The students will be learning about the text structures of cause/effect, chronological order, sequencing, problem/solution, and compare/contrast.
We've been learning all about changing communities and the process of trading goods.
My math class learned about pictographs and bar graphs this past week. We will start geometry on Tuesday.

February Update
I hope everyone is enjoying this nice long weekend!
Here is a rundown of what's been going on in my classroom and an outlook for next week:
Reading: We finished up a unit on dogs where we read lots and lots of nonfiction and fiction stories about dogs. Our reading strategy was asking and answering questioning. Next week, we will focus on finding the main idea of texts with a theme of cats.
Writing: We have been doing an author study on Mo Willems and writing book reviews of his books. We will continue to write book reviews for the next couple of weeks.
Math: We just spend the past week learning about area. This coming week we will go back to fractions again. We will do a lot with placing fractions on the number line.
Science: We will finish up our Interactions unit in science this week.
Have a great weekend!

Q3 Happenings
I apologize for not posting in quite awhile! Here's what the kiddos have been up to:
Writing: The students have been writing "All About Me" books for a few weeks now. This was a big project and the kids worked so hard completing them. We will start our book review and author study unit tomorrow! We will read lots of books by Mo Willems then write book reviews for some of his books! Book reviews are my favorite writing genre to teach.
Reading: We will be focusing on the comprehension skill, asking questions for the next week or so. We will be reading nonfiction and fiction books about dogs in reading group and in our read-alouds!
Math: My math class is starting off the quarter by learning and practicing multiplication and division facts for 6 and 9. We will then get into elapsed time later in the week.
Science: We'll start the next science unit, Interactions on Monday. This is such a fun unit.
That's about it! Stay warm!
